Can burning be a vocation? Looking at the Hecht family in Gunzwil: definitely yes. Tradition, craftsmanship, creativity - passed down through generations - and brought to perfection.

Steam distillery and grapperia - an experience!

In 1984, Urs Hecht takes over his father Fritz Hecht's mobile distillery. The market changes and demands a bold reorientation: soon the focus is on the commercial production of distillates.

In 1997, a new building was erected at Grasweg 26 in Gunzwil, Lucerne. The store develops into a meeting place for connoisseurs and gourmets of fine fruit brandies. Another milestone in 2008: the construction of the wooden hall with distillery, fruit storage and maturing cellar - 11 meters below ground level.

2025 - a new era begins: Elias Hecht takes over the reins of Gunzwiler Destillate Urs Hecht AG in the fourth generation, with great enthusiasm and well-equipped.

Barrique Cellar

Good things take time: Our brandies rest and mature in wooden barrels.

Our own maturing cellar offers optimal conditions. Because naturalness also wins when it comes to storage. Eleven meters below the floor. Constant temperatures - ideal for balanced maturation.

The barrels are made by our trusted cooper - according to the best craftsmanship. Made from regional Swiss wood: oak, cherry, etc. Just the way we like it.

Experience and sensitivity: crucial on the way to perfect harmony between distillate and wood. Type of wood, toasting, timing - everything in harmony. The time spent in the barrel is determined by the distillate and vintage.

Great pleasure and challenges at the same time: Elias and Urs Hecht decide together with great sensitivity when the fine fruit distillates are bottled. The circle is complete. A magical moment.

We only ever use Swiss fruit. And we feel very lucky to work so closely with our long-standing partners. Together, we strive to achieve the highest of quality standards regardless of the year’s harvest.

The secrets to our success? Nature through the seasons. Healthy trees. Delicious fruit. And local fruit farmers who nurture their tall fruit trees. We join forces to discuss planting old varieties. Commitment and dedication equate to sustainability in action. And the result is the exceptional fruit we need to create our signature fruit schnapps that is nothing short of exquisite.

You should see the sheer joy on our faces when our producers bring their fruit to us here in Gunzwil. We breathe in the gorgeous smell of the ripe fruit that goes on to be lovingly prepared and transformed into something truly special.
